The city of Fort Lauderdale is located on the South-East side of the US, specifically in Florida. Comfortably situated 50 km North of Miami, Fort Lauderdale is located on the South-East side of Florida, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The city has about 7 kilometers of beaches where people can have a swim and enjoy the warm sun. The most popular is Fort Lauderdale Beach from which you can admire the wonderful Atlantic Ocean as well as the majestic buildings of the city. Fort Lauderdale is crossed by the New River. Despite the name, this is not a river but a channel composed of many artificial canals. The city is also the perfect place where to go if you want to get a glimpse of the beautiful Caribbeans as the Bahamas are only a few hours away by ferry!

Fort Lauderdale has a tropical rainforest climate. Despite not having a proper dry season, the months from May and October are the ones that experience more precipitations. Summers tend to be humid and hot with the average high temperature around 32°C and the average low temperature around 25°C. During the summer months, late afternoon and evening storms with heavy rain and thunderstorms are frequent. From June to November, the city experiences the hurricane season. Major hurricanes are likely to arrive in the months of September and October, so avoid traveling to Fort Lauderdale in these two months. The winter months are very enjoyable as they tend to be both dry and sunny. The temperatures range from 26°C to 18°C, making it the perfect season for tourists to visit the city.

Obviously, Fort Lauderdale, like many other cities in Florida, is known for its great fish and seafood. If you’re coming here you cannot miss typical dishes such as fish tacos, shrimp, sea bass, scallop, and grouper. One of the best restaurants where to try fish and seafood is the Sea Watch on the Ocean, a great restaurant with an amazing selection of seafood and fish wonderfully located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Fort Lauderdale is also popular for Cuban food, being Cuba located only a few kilometers away from the city by ferry. Padrino’s Cuban is the perfect place to try some traditional local Cuban dishes! 

But probably, the most famous restaurant in the city is Mai Kai restaurant, a Polynesian themed restaurant which also offers Polynesian shows with dancers and fire eaters! If you decide to come to dine here, prepare to get a whole Polynesian experience. The restaurant has eight different dining areas and it hosts wonderful water paths, including a waterfall, passing through tropical gardens decorated with tiki artifacts! The restaurant even has a gift shop! Definitely worth trying!

If you’re coming to Fort Lauderdale with your family, then you cannot miss the great Flamingo Gardens. Flamingo Gardens is a wildlife sanctuary and botanical garden situated in the West area of Fort Lauderdale. This site offers a variety of 3,000 species of tropical, subtropical, and native plants, trees, and flowers of the most vivid colors. The perfect place to take amazing pictures with your kids! But there’s more! This place is also home to 90 types of animals that are native to Florida from alligators to eagles, peacocks, panthers, and, obviously, flamingos! Flamingo Gardens takes care of injured animals found all over Florida that cannot be returned to the wild. 

Another great destination for children is the Museum of Discovery and Science. Located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, in this great museum you kids will be able to watch 3D movies, experience an airplane flight simulator, take a simulated flight to Mars and try out a simulated airboat ride in the Everglades. Guaranteed fun for both kids and adults alike!

Are you looking for a romantic experience? Then you need to try out the Riverfront Gondola Tour. You can book a gondola for about an hour and a half with your partner and enjoy great food while the city waterfront slowly passes in front of your window! Another great area where to spend an afternoon with your partner is Las Olas Boulevard. The architecture of this neighborhood is simply adorable with colorful houses, porches, and ancient buildings, but that’s not all! Here you will find plenty of al fresco dining options, ten international art galleries, two museums, and tons of shops and boutiques! For the ultimate romantic experience, you cannot miss the daily cruise to the Bahamas. The trip lasts about two and a half hours and you can choose either a small ship or a ferry with thousands of passengers complete with onboard casinos!

There are a few destinations you really cannot miss if visiting Fort Lauderdale! First and foremost, the Jungle Queen! Jungle Queen is the longest-running city’s tourist attraction! This cruise allows tourists to travel through the city’s waterways on an old-fashioned boat. The cruise also stops at the Jungle Queen Indian village, where tourists can enjoy a barbecue and shrimp dinner while appreciating the wonderfully tropical atmosphere. 

If you want to jump into the past of this beautiful city then you should visit the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens. Just a few meters away from the Ocean, Bonnet House was built in 1920 and was home to the two artists Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. The house has maintained the furniture and the charm of the 1920s and is now a popular tourist attraction!

If you like vintage cars, then you should buy a ticket for the Fort Lauderdale Antique Car Museum. Here you will find twenty-two Packard motor cars from the 1900s to the 1940s. A must-see destination for vintage cars lovers!
