Tunisia closed to Brits as it adds UK to red list

Tunisia has effectively shut its borders to UK nationals owing to the increasing severity of the UK’s coronavirus epidemic. From Monday (28 September), the UK has been reclassified under Tunisia’s Covid traffic light system as a red country.

This means anyone who travels to Tunisia from the UK as of Monday will be denied entry unless they are a Tunisian national, or have permanent residency in Tunisia.

Previously, any UK nationals travelling to Tunisia had to take a Covid test 72 hours before arrival, and complete 14 days self-isolation on arrival – even if the test came back negative.

Travellers could pay for an additional Covid test after seven days’ self-isolation, if they wished, to end their quarantine early if negative. The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Tunisia to reflect the changes. “From the 28 September, the UK will be classified as a ’red’ country,” said the FCDO.

“This means that you will only be permitted to enter Tunisia if you are a Tunisian national or a permanent resident in Tunisia. British nationals that are not permanent residents in Tunisia will not be permitted to enter the country.”
