The British Airways Accelerating Business Credit Card has been reintroduced by American Express®, and it now comes with a generous 60,000 Avios sign-up bonus for a limited period.
Even better, if you are a business owner and have one of the personal British Airways American Express Credit Cards, you are eligible to apply.
Let’s take a closer look at the Card and see what’s new.
Based on a hypothetical credit limit of £1,200, the Card has a representative APR of 96.7 percent variable, including the annual charge of £250. The variable representative APR on purchases is 22.2 percent.
The British Airways American Express® Accelerating Business Credit Card (which I will henceforth refer to as “BA Amex Business”) was released in 2019 by American Express as a new British Airways credit card for small businesses.
In BA’s small business loyalty scheme, On Business Points were used for the sign-up bonus and the yearly expenditure bonus. Avios were earned on a daily basis by using the Card.
With the sign-up incentive, yearly spend bonuses, and day-to-day spending all earning Avios, the new package is a lot easier to understand.
The sign-up bonus has changed from On Business Points to Avios as of 1st September.
If you are approved for the Card and spend £5,000 within three months, you will receive 60,000 Avios.
This is the largest sign-up bonus we presently have on any American Express Business Card that is offered to all new cardmembers. The American Express Business Platinum Card’s 40,000 Membership Rewards® points are only worth 40,000 Avios, while the bonus on the American Express Business Gold Card is only worth 20,000 Avios.
The incentive of 60,000 Avios is only valid for a short time. It will be available until 2nd November 2021 at the earliest, but the terms and conditions say that it could be withdrawn at any time after then.
Previously, there were no restrictions on who may earn the bonus from the Card. This is no longer the case.
You are eligible for the bonus if you have not owned an American Express Business Card in the past 12 months, including the British Airways Accelerating Business Card.
If you presently just have personal American Express cards, you WILL receive the bonus. If you hold one of the personal British Airways American Express Cards, you can apply.
What is the cost of a yearly membership? BA Amex Business has a yearly fee of £250.
If you use the Card solely for business purposes, the annual cost should be tax deductible.
With the BA Amex Business Card, you can earn points in two ways:
You get 1.5 Avios for almost every eligible £1 you spend on the Card, plus 2 On Business Points for every £1 you spend with British Airways On Business (twice the regular rate of 1 point per £1) with British Airways On Business. Please read our entire review of British Airways On Business if you are not a member.
The annual spending incentive used to be given in On Business Points, but it has since been changed to Avios, which is far more valuable.
For every £20,000 in purchases made on the Card, you will receive 10,000 additional Avios.
You can earn this incentive up to three times each calendar year, for a total of 30,000 Avios per year.
This means that if you spent exactly £20,000, £40,000, or £60,000 on the Card, you’d get 2 Avios for every £1 spent. No other American Express or non-American Express credit card comes close.
Are there any further advantages?
