Following an 18-month absence, Qantas will resume its London flights on 18th December.
Qantas told Yahoo Finance that the first flights from Sydney and Melbourne will depart for Heathrow on that day. In addition, a Sydney-Los Angeles service, as well as other major trans-Pacific flights, will resume.
The first Qantas flights to the UK since June 2020 will resume following the resumption. The airline previously stated that it would resume London service with Boeing 787s before upgrading to the larger Airbus A380 in November 2022.
Qantas has yet to clarify when its non-stop London-Perth service would restart. According to Executive Traveller, the carrier is hesitant due to Western Australia’s insistence on remaining closed until an 80 percent immunization goal is met.
If Western Australia remains closed, the carrier has announced it will reroute the nonstop flight to Darwin in the Northern Territory. Qantas has already utilized Darwin as a boarding point for repatriation flights.
