Between April and the beginning of June 2021, Lufthansa reports a 25-fold increase in airline bookings to Palma de Mallorca, Spain. As a result, the airline has taken “exceptional steps” to boost capacity between Germany and the popular Spanish vacation spot.
Normally, Lufthansa flies Airbus A321s to Palma de Mallorca, but during high summer travel times, the airline will fly wide-body airplanes. Specifically:
On 17th July, 24th July, 31st July, and 7th August, Lufthansa will fly a Boeing 747-8 between Frankfurt and Palma de Mallorca.
On 31st July, Lufthansa will operate an Airbus A350-900 between Munich and Palma de Mallorca.
Lufthansa claims that the CO2 emissions from these “exceptional” flights will be offset.

So, knowing that Lufthansa’s 747-8s have four cabins and the A350-900s have three, how can Lufthansa sell these planes?
Business class passengers on the 747-8 (which has 364 seats) can assign first and business class seats, while economy passengers can assign premium economy and economy seats.
Business class customers on the A350-900 (which has a total of 293 seats) can assign business class seats, while economy passengers can assign premium economy and economy seats.
To put it another way, getting a first-class ticket, or even a flatbed business class seat, for the price of an intra-Europe business class seat is really amazing.
