US-based JetBlue Airways, has announced the arrival of the first of thirteen A321LR aircraft with Airbus’ innovative “Airspace” cabin.
These new A321LRs are part of JetBlue’s goal to expand its services, with the airline aiming to enter the transatlantic market later in 2021 with direct flights to London.
In addition, a total of 57 Airbus planes have been ordered, including different A321neo models with Airspace cabins. JetBlue’s A321 cabins will be the first in the world to incorporate the much-anticipated new Airbus interiors, which have garnered awards, by introducing the Airspace interiors to a single-aisle model.
Cabin design language and passenger-pleasing cabin elements are among the notable modifications.
JetBlue Airways Corp. CEO Robin Hayes stated: “At JetBlue we are eagerly looking forward to introducing the Airbus A321 Long Range single-aisle aircraft with Airbus’ Airspace interior for our new transatlantic services. These aircraft will allow us to offer our customers attentive, boutique-style service, while also ensuring ample personal space, larger overhead bins, customized lighting and a design that gives the cabin a wide-body feel.”
Unique welcome and customisable hero lighting (which helps reduce jet lag); new slimmer sidewall panels for extra personal space at shoulder level; better views through the windows with redesigned bezels and completely integrated window shades; the latest full LED lighting technologies; the largest overhead bin in class; and new lavatories with hygienic urinals are just a few of the passenger-friendly features.
In addition, the A320’s broad cabin cross-section allows for more comfort in every class. The airline’s ‘Mint’ premium-class private suites include 24 full-flat adaptive-mattress seats, while economy travellers will love the 18.4inch chairs, which are engineered to provide greater comfort and leg room. Most economy seats will have a 32-inch pitch, while four rows on each plane will have “Even More Space” seating, which will have an extra five inches of pitch (making it the most legroom in any transatlantic economy class seat).
The aircraft, according to Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer, is an excellent choice for long-haul trips. “We are thrilled to have JetBlue set yet another trend and introduce Airbus’ new Airspace cabin on its long range service. For sure the outstanding comfort and in-flight transatlantic experience on board these aircraft will be a winner – for JetBlue, its valued passengers and crew alike!”
At the 2017 APEX Expo in Long Beach, JetBlue was announced as the first customer for Airbus’ Airspace cabin for the A320 Family. The Airbus-JetBlue cooperation began in 1999, when JetBlue was founded and received its first A320 aircraft.
In comparison to earlier generations of aircraft, the A321LR, a member of the A320neo Family, saves 30% on fuel and has a roughly 50% lower noise footprint.
